After Dark
“Enjoy life while you can. It can be taken in a heartbeat”
Not a single soul will argue that gun violence is an issue in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Recent Albuquerque news outlets report that it is ranked 17th among 70 of the largest cities in the nation. Local celebrity and musician Johnny James mentioned in a recent podcast that the reason it hits home so much more here is we aren’t a huge metropolis, we are still a small city with very close ties to each other, and that our community remains village like. When crimes of this magnitude happen here they are felt with even greater intensity than a city 10 times the size or larger. What’s problematic is how to solve the issue. The governor of NM decided to issue a citywide ban on the 2nd Amendment as she declared a public health emergency in response to recent report of an 11 year old boy who was gunned down outside a sporting event. This action sent shockwaves across media outlets and had people literally up in arms. What isn’t clear is a solution. What is clear is what is needed is more members of the community reaching out and speaking on the issue to help put guns down. The city is hurting.
One artist is approaching the topic with his latest track, After Dark. Paakman is the man who felt compelled to speak on it and this track is heartfelt and has pure intentions.
